What's NewThe Brightwater Commons team started the sustainability journey four years ago with a carbon footprint audit (including water and waste) and reduction and offsetting program. Several of the major milestones and achievements have been reached. The Brightwater Commons' Going Green Campaign has won two coveted South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) awards. The first was a Gold Footprint Award (in the Integrated Category) followed by the SACSC's Spectrum Award, the highest accolade honouring achievements in innovation, creativity, vision and excellence. Recycling UpdateBrightwater Commons is proud to announce that we have partnered up with a well-known South African recycling company called REMADE. Going Green - How You Can Save the World - Just by Spreading the WordGoing Green is a term that contains one specific subject matter with hundreds of sub-categories, but ultimately completes one overall meaning; Saving the Planet. It is no longer just about Global Warming, or technological advances. There has been a movement that has spread across the internet like a wild fire. Instead of just surfing the net, use it as a tool to further spread the word about Going Green. If you have a strong interest in saving the planet or making a cleaner world to live in, than you should read this article. Is it better to burn wood or charcoal?Half the World's population of nearly six billion people prepare their food and heat their homes with coal and the traditional biomass fuels of dung, crop residues, wood and charcoal (Inheriting the world: The atlas of children's health and the environment, by Bruce Gordon, Richard Mackay and Eva Rehfuess, WHO 2004). Green your holidaysHolidays are no longer only associated with gas-guzzling air miles and water-craving golf courses. Hop onto the web and there are now many overseas websites committed solely to green travel where responsible and sustainable holidays are fast becoming the norm... VermicultureNo doubt, the economic situation has impacted on the pockets of many people and the trend that landscapers are currently seeing in the requests from their middle income clients is the choice to include more fruit trees and vegetable spots in their gardens. Homeowners are also investing in earthworm bins and recycling their left-over food and organic waste through vermiculture in their gardens as earthworm compost. Going GreenThis is still on-going so please make sure you recycle and drop off at the centre. Our green banks are situated at Adventure Golf and Cross Street entrance... RESOURCES
