World's Biggest Soccer Shirt (of soccer shirts).Displayed at Brightwater CommonsThe world's biggest soccer shirt, an amazing 20m long and 15m wide creation, will be displayed in the promotion's court of The Brightwater Commons on Thursday 1st July. The enormous soccer shirt, created by Bjorn Heidenstrom of Norway, currently comprises of 621 signed soccer shirts collected from countries around the world, and sewn together. Amongst those who've contributed shirts or signatures are Sir Elton John, FIFA president - Sepp Blatter, and our own President Jacob Zuma; as well as Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Bafana Bafana players. The shirt is intended to symbolise "the standing together of the football family" in support of refugees worldwide. Backed by FIFA, UEFA and the UNHCR/UN Refugee Agency, Heidenstrom began his journey on bicycle in Oslo Norway on 20th June last year. He has cycled and hitch-hiked alone through over 35 countries collecting as many soccer shirts as possible along the way; and simultaneously raising awareness and funds for the world's over 41 million refugees. His journey will end in Cape Town - South Africa. Heidenstrom's other aim is to show the power of football in crossing boundaries and being a force for good. The unique project is endorsed by the Nobel Peace Centre, Norwegian Refugee Council, Norwegian FA, and South African Premier League, amongst others. More shirts are still being added, and soccer fans and clubs - both professional and amateur - are invited to be part of this amazing campaign by donating their signed soccer shirts. Those wishing to contribute to the project can take their soccer shirts to the shirt collection box in the promotions court of The Brightwater Commons.
