Foil Ball - First R20 000 Winner
Blairgowrie resident Eve Desbois has won the first R20 000 cash prize in the first lucky draw of the Foil Ball Record Attempt - a recycling campaign and competition currently in operation at The Brightwater Commons.
Said Eve, "I've always been passionate about recycling. Our landfill sites have become a huge problem; we're polluting our air, our land and our earth. If people could become more involved with recycling, it would make a difference for our future generations. It would ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for our children".
To date 102 Kilograms of used aluminium foil have been collected in the Foil Ball Record Attempt and recycling campaign; but organisers of this unusual project still need more.
The Foil Ball Campaign, first launched at The Brightwater Commons on Thursday 1st April, aims to create an awareness of recycling. Members of the public, schools and business are encouraged to support this initiative by bringing their used aluminium foil to the foil deposit point adjacent to the Woolworths store at The Brightwater Commons. Here, the used foil will be weighed, recorded, and then deposited into the giant soccer ball structure located on the grass area opposite the deposit point.
For every deposit of 50g, one can complete a Foil Ball Competition form for entry into a lucky draw. Whilst Eve has claimed the first R20 000 cash prize for the month of April there are still two more cash prizes to be won for the months of May and June; as well as a Chana Benni 1300cc Exclusive to the value of R89 900 - the grand prize for the final draw at the end of July.
As an incentive to schools, a cash prize of R15 000 from Zibi Environmental will be awarded to the school that collects the largest amount of used aluminium foil.
The campaign will close on Saturday 31st July. Thereafter, the foil inside the ball will be purchased by Zimalco and the funds from the purchase will go the the Lehae La Tshepo Centre. This Windsor based organisation consists of an after-care centre and a support centre. The after-care centre caters for local children from disadvantaged backgrounds, whilst the support centre offers counselling in HIV Aids and trauma, provides food parcels for the needy, and offers skills development to empower the community.
Schools, businesses and individuals wishing to be part of this project or requiring further information can contact Winton Woodrooffe on 082 379 8760.
