The Brightwater Commons Receives Prestigious Award

The Annual South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) Footprint Marketing Awards seek to recognise exceptional shopping centre marketing, innovation and creative achievements, together with economic success, within the South African property industry.

The Brightwater Commons was honoured with a Gold Award in the Gauteng region for their "Going Green" campaign which has been an enormous success, with over 100 tons of recyclable items being removed from the centre's green bins over the last year! The groundbreaking campaign makes The Brightwater Commons one of the only shopping centres in the country with an ongoing commitment to keeping their environmental impact to a minimum. The campaign has so far involved:

• a carbon offsetting programme
• a water conservation programme
• a recycling programme and competition for local residents with R100 000 in prize money
• community efforts to clean up the nearby river and park in Ferndale
• a community website where residents can have their say on environmental issues, ask questions and share their experiences
