Spin Lives Around Spinnathon® for Charity

MES (Metro Evangelical Services) will be hosting its annual adrenaline pumping SPINNATHON® on Saturday 28th November 2009, and would like to appeal to "Spinners®" and other fitness fanatics for their support. The event, which aims to raise funds for the MES Impilo Hospice, will take place in the Promotions Court of The Brightwater Commons from 8am to 12pm.

One hundred Spinning® bikes will be placed in the Promotions Court and a Spinning® session will take place every hour. The public are invited to support this event by signing up for an hour session at R100, which will go to MES Impilo. To be part of this exciting event, one can contact Anelle Erasmus on (011) 725 0001 or email anelle@mes.org.za to book a Spinning® bike. Though pre-bookings are preferable, entries will be accepted on the day.

There'll also be entertainment on the day and various prizes up for grabs, as well as the chance to meet some of South Africa's favourite celebrities.

In addition to raising funds for the MES Impilo Hospice (which is the only hospice in Gauteng that caters for the terminally ill homeless and destitute community), the goal of this event is to educate the broader community on the impact of HIV Aids on our country and its future; and inform and inspire the broader community on how they can make a difference and contribute to the solution. It will also create a platform where individuals can confirm their HIV status by providing private HIV testing on the day at a clearly marked stall in The Brightwater Commons.

MES (Metro Evangelical Services), a non-profit organisation, was started in 1986 with an aim to address the pressing needs of the poor in the inner city of Johannesburg. The organisation focuses on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the homeless and unemployed by challenging individuals to take responsibility for their lives and become sustainable.

MES renders a holistic service and all their services are implemented through the MES Service Model: Intake/Assessment, Intervention and Sustainable Exit. The main focus of intervention is social relief, professional social work services, health care and education/training/early childhood development (ECD). Services offered are implemented through 8 developmental programmes, each focusing on a specific need and target group within the homeless community. The organisation has reached people of all ages through its different programmes for over 23 years.
