Virgin Active Brightwater Commons

Local residents will soon be able to enjoy the numerous state-of-the-art facilities at the new Virgin Active Gym scheduled to open at The Brightwater Commons on Thursday 23rd October. The gym will exhibit the latest equipment and facilities as offered in recently opened Virgin Active Health Clubs.

The 3631 square meter premises will consist of an upper and a lower level. Located on the upper level will be a spinning studio, and a tranquil Mind/Body Studio offering Pilates, Yoga, Thai Chi, and a range of group training classes. Also located on this level will be Techno strength equipment, cardio equipment, a Super Circuit, and a Kauai Health Food and Juice Company where one can enjoy a healthy snack or drink after a workout.

The lower level will be home to a pristine 25 metre, 5-lane heated swimming pool, male and female change rooms, as well as relaxing saunas and steam rooms.

Another feature of Virgin Active Brightwater Commons will be Club-V, a children's club offering entertaining activities such as art and craft classes, age-appropriate fitness classes, adventure circuits and a Playstation arena that children can enjoy whilst their parents are working out. This club will also be located on the lower level.

Glass facades will allow natural light into the gymnasium creating a bright and airy atmosphere, and also giving members an exquisite view of the serene park-like commons while they're exercising. The entrance to the gym will be located on the upper level of the shopping centre, and can be accessed via a covered walkway leading directly from the parking area, or alternatively from the lower ground level via a set of escalators, a lift or stairs.

Virgin Active Brightwater Commons will open from 5:00am to 9:30pm on Mondays to Thursdays, from 5:00am to 9:00am on Fridays, and from 7:00am to 8:00pm on weekends and public holidays.

"As we live in stressful and fast paced times, people have come to realise the benefits and importance of a healthy balanced lifestyle. The opening of this club will bring health and wellness in Virgin style to the doorsteps of those residing around the centre. The club at The Brightwater Commons will also be offering some premium facilities currently not offered at other Virgin Active Gyms in Randburg. Furthermore the opening of this club will assist in reducing the high usage of other clubs in the area, thus improving the experiences of members in terms of equipment availability", says Rory Sweetlove (Chief Operating Officer).

"Virgin Active Brightwater Commons will be the latest addition to the Virgin Active Family. We will offer the latest and most enjoyable facilities to date and continue to deliver the Virgin health and wellness aspects to our current and new members, as well as exceptional service and fun", Says Sheik Abdulla (Sales & Marketing Manager of Virgin Active Brightwater Commons).

Virgin Active Goes Green

Like other Virgin Active Health Clubs around the country Virgin Active Brightwater Commons will implement certain environmental friendly initiatives. These will include the following:

An Energy Saving Campaign

This campaign includes a Heat Recovery System which uses the excess energy from the gyms air conditioning units to heat the swimming pool and water for the showers.

Other projects that Virgin Active are currently working on to further reduce their energy requirements will include:

  • The use of energy saving light bulbs
  • The use of timers for external lighting such as lights in the parking area which will automatically shut down at certain times
  • The use of smart lighting which will adapt the indoor lighting levels according to light levels outside
  • PIR (Passive Infra-red Sensors) which will automatically turn off lights in various areas in the club that are not being used
  • Solar Panels

A Water Savvy Campaign

This is a campaign whereby filtered waste pool water is used to irrigate gardens surrounding the club. "Used" water is also used for the flushing of toilets and urinals.

The Full Circle Recycling Campaign

Plastic drums housing our cleaning aids are recycled. Presently, Virgin Active Gyms recycle five hundred of these 5 litre plastic drums each month.

All light bulbs and fluorescent lighting is disposed of in a legislated environmentally friendly manner, and printer cartridges and packaging boxes are also recycled.

Like the other Virgin Active Health Clubs around the country, Virgin Active Brightwater Commons will work at contributing towards the improving of "green" issues.
