Classics on the Commons
Presenting an afternoon of classical music entertainment at The Brightwater Commons will be celebrated South African tenor Jannie Moolman and voilinist Annaka de Villers. The performance will take place on Sunday 28th October between 3pm to 5pm. Jannie and Annaka will be accompanied by percussionist Magda de Vries and pianist Devereaux van der Hoven.
The four will render an array of popular classics such as "O sole Mio Tango", "Valencia", "Nessun Dorma", " Torna Sorriento", "La Donna", and "Granada", amongst others. They will also be performing some Afrikaans numbers and contemporary songs like "You Raise Me Up"
Jannie Moolman, who began his opera career in 1990, has since released three albums. He's performed at many venues and events including the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunsfees, Aardklop and the Grahamstown Festival. He has also impressed audiences overseas with performances in Germany, England, Hong Kong and China. Jannie's singing talent has won him numerous awards including four FNB Vita Life awards, and a State Theatre/SAA Opera Foundation award. He also came 2nd in the Marsala International singing competition held in Italy.
Annake, whose firmly rooted in the classical genre, has shared a stage with many renowned SA artists like Steve Hofmeyr, Mathys Roets and Danie Niehaus amongst others. On the international front, she's performed with artists such as Josh Groban, Helmut Lotti, Luciano Pavarotti, and Patrizio. She released her first album in 2004 and will be releasing her second album in the first week of November this year.
Audiences can picnic on the commons whilst enjoying the performance. Picnic blankets, chairs and umbrellas can be placed on the grass for a relaxing afternoon outdoors. Whilst take-away meals can be purchased from food tenants in the centre; picnic baskets, containing a variety of foods, can be rented from various food. These include Cafe Galini (011 789 9900); Babylon Again (011 285 0946), Ocean Basket (011 886 4440), and Mimmos (011 789 7197). The mentioned stores can be contacted for information on their picnic menus. Orders for picnic baskets must however be placed before Saturday 27th October.
Please note that only picnic hampers and food items purchased from tenants of the centre will be allowed on the commons. No food, alcohol, picnic coolers or baskets may be brought from home.
