Gauteng's First Oyster, Wine & Food Festival

Fine wines, juicy Knysna oysters, coffees, delicious deli items and cheeses will be amongst the array of tasty treats at Gauteng's very first Oyster, Wine & Food Festival. This colourful celebration of food and beverages, to take place at The Brightwater Commons from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th May, will open from 2pm to 6pm on the 27th and 11am to 6pm on the 28th and 29th. The event will also feature a children's cooking competition, wine auction and raptors demonstration.

One of its highlights will be the Pepperdew® Piquanté Pepper Chef's Village to be hosted on the centre's promotional stage. Here visitors can see a variety of interesting cooking demonstrations and pick-up tips from culinary experts such as radio and TV celebrity chef Citrum Khumalo. Whilst the first demo will take place at 2pm on Friday, a different demonstration will take place each hour on Saturday starting at 11am. The last one will be at 11am on Sunday.

The event, hosted in conjunction with the South African Chefs' Association and Wine Food Adventures will also feature a 'Kiddie Cook Off' competition for youngsters ages 8 to 16. This will be held on the centre's promotional stage at 2pm and again at 3pm on Friday. Young children can also visit the Nestle Kiddies' Village and enjoy loads of fun activities whilst moms and dads sample the delicious foods and beverages.

Forming part of the festival will be the annual Lifeline Wine Auction, to be hosted on the centre's promotional stage starting at 5pm on Saturday. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid for a variety of wines from established as well as up-'n-coming estates. Proceeds will be in aid of Lifeline.

A treat for visitors to the festival on Sunday will be a Raptors Demonstration by the South African Bird of Prey Society. Watch these amazing creatures in action as they fly, 'catch their prey' and even get to see them up-close and personal. The demo will take place on the commons starting at 12noon.

As visitors sample the oysters, wines and different fare, opera and classical tunes from popular musicals and African songs will add to the ambiance as celebrated SA artist Zwai Bala takes to the stage with a delightful performance from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday. Visitors may also enjoy lunch on the commons by renting picnic baskets from certain tenants of the centre.

The entry fee for the Oyster, Wine & Food Festival is R30 for adults, but free of charge for children under the age 12. For more information contact The Brightwater Commons on (011) 789 5052.
