Voices for Children

Renowned performing artists and musicians including Jennifer Ferguson, PJ Powers and Gloria Bosman amongst others will join forces to present Voices For Children on Tuesday 16th December. A glorious musical tribute to the South African child, this outstanding concert, which is free to all visitors, will take place at The Brightwater Commons (formerly known as Randburg Waterfront) starting at 3pm and will also be the official launch of Artists Against Abuse.

Other artists representing this two hour musical feast will include Thabo & Nhlanhla Mduli & The Blacklight Ensemble of eight; pianist and vocalist Michele Maxwell; guitarist and band leader Bheki Khosa; drummer Sipho Mtshali; base guitarist Jimmy Mngwandi; and the award winning Izimbongi Zase Afrika Children’s Choir of twenty from Sunnyridge Primary School.

The powerful voices of Jennifer, who’ll also act as MC, PJ and Gloria together with the combined talent of all artists will dazzle audiences with a diverse array of songs that will create a spirit of unity in keeping with the Day of Reconciliation. The day of peace and reconciliation will be acknowledged in the celebration of voices for the child.

Whilst the artists will present the first half of the programme, there will be many songs to sing along to in the second half with a sing along of South African traditional and contemporary songs of joy and peace.

The concert will be held under the banner of a newly formed non-profit organisation – Artists Against Abuse (AAA) formed by a group of Artists concerned with the escalating crises of child abuse and assault. The concert will highlight the need for peace and security for all children. AAA will use the Voices for Children concert to introduce its agenda as a mobilizing force behind artist’s participation in social transformation, especially around the issue of child abuse.

Also present in the covered Pick ‘n Pay area will be representatives from The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children. To raise funds for their organisation a live size (1.6m high) professionally hand-made teddy bear from German mo-hair will be on raffle between 8:30am and 5pm. Visitors will also be encouraged to purchase a special piece of paper, write a message of hope and place this into a specially created wire-shell bear. All proceeds will go to The Teddy Bear Clinic and messages will be collected for publication at a later date. Various types of teddy bears will also be on display.

This event in honour of South African children is not to be missed. For more information contact The Brightwater Commons on +2711 789 5052 or e-mail at info@brightwatercommons.co.za
